5 ways to improve your business French text and image

Are you doing business with French speakers? Here are five tips to improve your business French

1. Read

A great way to improve your business French is to watch the news, business reports and programs in your mother tongue and in French, this way, you’ll understand the content and will be able to match the vocabulary. You can also find articles and forums that target your profession. This is why our teachers often provide our business French students with articles from the media to read and work on the key wording together.

2. Speak with your French co-workers in French and listen actively

When you’re in a business meeting you can write down notes of expression and corporate lingo and phrasal verbs you hear your French-speaking co-workers using. Do not hesitate to ask them to correct you if needed or read documents. We can bet you are often making the same mistakes. Once you have spotted that, you will not do it again.

3. Join a French-speaking business club

At L’ecole de francais we often offer the opportunity to our Business French students to attend conferences or events with the French chamber of commerce here in the Netherlands or events organised by the school or our partners.

4. Use authentic and relevant resources

During our Business French classes, we might use a manual, but we will always ask you to bring your own documentation or events to work on. You will improve because you’ll work with familiar material in context and because you’re motivated to learn.

5. Think in French

Think in French… as much as you can. You’ll be surprised; it is very useful for language purposes and for de-stressing. It will take you longer to think at first but over time, you will become more confident and ease into thinking about your next project naturally in French.

If you’d like to improve your business French, register for one of our courses here.
